Moissanite Engagement Rings Review

moissanite engagement rings review

Moissanite engagement rings are brilliant, durable and less expensive than their diamond counterparts. Moissanite is very rare in nature, but can now be manufactured to create stunning diamond-like gems. Charles and Colvard patented the production of moissanite stones in 1998 and are the primary producers of moissanite stones in the world. In fact, most moissanite sellers only sell Charles and Colvard moissanite.

What is a Moissanite Diamond

In reality, moissanite and diamond are two distinct gems. This is because the chemical make up for moissanite is different than that of a natural diamond. For this reason, moissanite is in its own category of precious stones.

What makes moissanite such an attractive alternative to diamonds? Since moissanite does not need to be mined, it reduces costs of production. The stones are hand-cut by expert jewelers, so each stone is guaranteed to be brilliant and exquisite. In fact, most jewelers are not able to tell the difference between moissanite and real diamonds. The ring, or setting, is made of gold, white gold, platinum or any other precious metal, but what differs is the stone that is used. For more information on the difference between moissanite and diamonds, please visit our article the Difference Between Moissanite Diamonds.

Some Things to Keep in Mind

Similar to diamonds, moissanite can vary in clarity. Charles & Colvard® have trademarked three types of brilliance based on their color. Forever ClassicTM fits the range of J-K of the gem color scale and has faint undertones of green to yellow to gray. Forever Brilliant® is a near-colorless gem in the G-H-I range. Forever OneTM is the colorless gem that fits in the D-E-F category. It is available in limited quantities at the time of this writing. Click here for more options of rings and styles.

At the end of the day, it comes down to preference and budget. Although Moissanite is a material of it’s own and not considered a diamond, it’s sparkle, durability and affordability make it a very appealing alternative. There are really no drawbacks to purchasing a moissanite ring. To the average person there will be no difference between a moissanite engagement ring and a diamond one, except that moissanite will have more sparkle. If you are looking for a diamond alternative, moissanite is definitely one to consider.
